Disabling the Windows 8 firewall
Caution: Unless you are troubleshooting an issue or plan on installing another firewall, it is recommended that you do not disable your Windows Firewall.
Tip: If you are disabling the firewall because a program can't access your computer or the Internet, try to allow a program through the firewall first.
- Open the Control Panel by pressing Windows key + I and selecting Control Panel. Or open the Start Menu (if available) and select Control Panel.
- Click on Windows Firewall.
- If the Windows Firewall is enabled, the Windows Firewall state will be On. To turn it off, in the left navigation pane, click on Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
- In the Customize Settings window, select Turn off Windows Firewall and click OK.
Disabling the Windows Vista and Windows 7 firewall
- Click "Start" and in the Search for Programs and Files text box, type firewall and press Enter.
- In the search results, click Windows Firewall.
- If the Windows Firewall is enabled, the Windows Firewall state will be on. To turn it off, click Change settings or Turn Windows Firewall on or off in the left column.
- In the Firewall Settings window, select Off and click OK.
Disabling the Windows XP firewall
- Click "Start" > "Settings" > "Control Panel" and open Network Connections.
- Within the Network Connections window, right-click the Local Area Connection and select Properties.
- Within the Local Area Connection Properties window, click the Advanced tab.
- Finally, uncheck the Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet option.
If you are attempting to disable the Windows firewall, but this option is already unchecked, another developer's firewall program may be installed on the computer, if the computer is supplied to you by a company.
Mac OS X 10.6 and later

- If the orange padlock icon in the lower left side of the window is closed, click it, and then authenticate with your Mac's administrator username and password. This will allow you to make changes.
- Click Turn Off Firewall (10.7 and later) or Stop (10.6) to disable the firewall.
Please remember to re-activate the firewall for your security.
